Food and Resource Distribution

Background

These families can hardly afford to eat or drink, much less be able to buy cautionary sanitary supplies, masks, hand sanitizers, etc. Considering COVID-19, unemployment rates have shot up, and according to the country director for Bangladesh, “We see desperate workers willing to accept very low wages in extremely dangerous conditions, with no serious health and safety protections, let alone social distancing measures or personal protective equipment.” Due to these circumstances, families can hardly afford to feed themselves, let alone their families.

Natural disasters are regular for Bangladesh. In May, Cyclone Amphan hit (which was the worst cyclone they’d experienced in two decades). In June, they experienced heavy monsoon rains and devastating floods. It’s no wonder why Bangladesh is known as the “ground zero for climate change”.

What we have done

During the spike of the coronavirus, we distributed food, masks, and sanitary supplies to 10-15 villages, where the poverty-stricken that were most impacted by the pandemic resided. Our volunteers hand-packed fresh food right before the distributions, added hygeinic items such as hand sanitizer to the bagging, and personally gave each and every villager a mask. We have partnered with Latif Master Foundation to admister events like these; in the wake of natural disasters
